Moose Calf RescueBy Broqsten BuntFort Wayne, IN Hi, this is Broqsten Bunt. In May 2005 I went on a fishing trip with Art Bunt, my grandpa. The third or fourth day of the trip we were out fishing and my grandpa and Rick were trolling and saw a mother moose and her 2 newborns swimming from one of the islands back to shore. As they watched they noticed that the one baby had turned around and started swiming the opposite direction. So they drove the boat over to baby and my grandpa grabbed it by the ears and they slowly pulled it over to shore and set him near the edge. We saw them over there so we drove our boat over and watched. We could see the mother up in the woods and the baby was just sitting in the water. We sat and watched for about 30 minutes but the mother wouldn't come down into the water to get the baby, and it had started to shiver. So we drove our boat over to the shore and my dad got out and picked up the moose and carried him up the bank. It was pretty steep so that may be why the mother didn't come down. I had a blast on the fishing trip and I hope I get to come again. Thank you for the great service! |
